Anti-Ageing Fun
The fountain of eternal youth has always been a dream of mankind. Unfortunately, we cannot stop the ageing process; but there a many ways to keep body and mind young and fit.
Can you eat your way to youthfulness?
Yes! Many foods contain true “age-reversing” ingredients that pack some punch. International studies have shown that you can slow the ageing process by eating fruit and vegetables every day. Your diet should also include dairy products and milk, since calcium is needed for strong bones. Further, consume whole grain products whenever possible. In the animal food group, fish is an ideal anti-ageing food, thanks to its iodine and omega-3 fatty acids, which are important for heart and cardiovascular health. One to two servings of fish per week are ideal.
Your water intake is almost as important as a balanced diet. A dehydrated body gets tired and depletes energy faster, and the skin dries out becoming rough and scaly and showing small wrinkles. Drink at least one to two litres a day. Mineral water, (unsweetened) tea or juice spritzers are best. Cola, soda and sweetened juices will make you thirsty rather than quench your thirst!
Savouring the moment will keep you young
The occasional calorie sin is fine as long as you eat fatty and sweet foods sparsely and savour them, rather than snacking on them while you work or in front of the telly. Enjoying life to the fullest, with a positive attitude towards life, will automatically keep you young. If you don’t sleep enough and are under a lot of stress, you might live life in the fast lane, but you will also accelerate the ageing process. Nothing is more important than balance for your soul. And the most important thing: Don’t sweat the small stuff and enjoy every moment – that alone will keep you young longer!
